Dave Chappelle has often reflected on what happens to identity when a person becomes the subject of constant public attention. Taken from his own words, the title shifts that question towards the act of looking itself. The portrait presents a face already familiar to millions, reconstructed through thousands of individual LEGO® elements. “[…] When Everybody Is Watching” leaves open what changes when looking becomes collective—and what might remain of the individual behind the image.
