The Pink Pope

The Pink Pope is one of the first pieces I completed with my glazing technique – basically a superimposition of matte and transparent bricks and plates. As the Pope of Pop, Andy Warhol had to be depicted as such, so i chose to recreate the top of a Pope garment. I also wanted the piece to be bathed in pink while achieving sparkling tones to match both his complexion and his silver wig. Ultimately my purpose here was to create a strong contrast between a pop appeal and a more realistic, almost naturalistic rendering of skin tones.
