Hollywood Tan

Hollywood Tan is one of the first brick paintings I created using the glazing technique – basically a superimposition of matte and transparent bricks and plates. At that time (2022) I was still using celebrities candids as references because I always thought pop culture was important. Starlet Lindsay Lohan is my subject here : I pushed the warm tones to the limits and made them appear a bit sticky. This is my tribute to the 2000s pop culture aesthetics, to this pivotal point when trashy became iconic. The title refers to the self-tanning showers Los Angeles It girls took to look tanned – or orange actually.
